Fantasy Mailbag: Center Attention

The Wiz explains why it's time to pick up Kings center Brad Miller, and unveils two new contests!

TIME FOR MILLER?

Brad Miller may never be an All-Star again, but he's a quality fantasy pick-up at center this season.

The SIKIDS.com Fantasy Basketball world was rocked when rising young center Andrew Bynum ($8,400,000) went down with an injury two weeks ago. Who do distraught owners call on? How about Kings C Brad Miller ($7,600,000). A former All-Star, Miller looked like a washed-up mess last season under first-year coach Eric Musselman. But with Musselman gone and the upbeat Reggie Theus coaching in Sacto, Miller has been reborn. He picked up some of the scoring slack with guards Mike Bibby and Kevin Martin out of the lineup earlier this month. And while he's no scoring 20 a night anymore with Martin and Bibby back in the lineup, Miller is still grabbing a ton of rebounds. And he's also dishing out more assists than any center in the league.

THINK YOU CAN TAKE DOWN THE WIZARD?

You'll get your chance soon. Starting on February 25, the Fantasy Wizard and SIKIDS.com Ballroom Dancing Wizard Duane from New Jersey, will be starting up a special experts league on SIKIDS.com Fantasy Basketball. The best part: Anyone can sign up! And if you lead the league in scoring in a week, you'll have a chance to write your own story at the top of the next week's mailbag! Be sure to check in over the next couple of weeks for more details.

FIRST-EVER FANTASY BASKETBALL TRIVIA CHALLENGE

That's right, the Trivia Challenge is back. In basketball form. Readers of the baseball and football mailbags know the deal: Submit the correct answer to the mailbag by noon on Thursday, January 31, and I will answer and fantasy basketball question you have (just one question, submit it with your trivia answer). And more importantly, you will receive my respect and admiration, an I will officially proclaim you to be "Awesome" in next week's mailbag. Now, on to the question:

The Fantasy Wizard is not only a big NBA fan, but an even bigger college basketball fan. (I especially enjoyed watching The Osby Show, aka Bambale Osby, and the Maryland Terps knock off top-ranked North Carolina last week). So we'll stick with an NCAA theme: Only three players in Division I history have led the nation in scoring and rebounding in the same season. One of them is still active in the NBA today. Name him.

While you think about that, let's check in with my archnemesis, SIKIDS.com's own Ballroom Dancing Wizard, Duane from New Jersey...

THE DUANE WAY

Let's get right to this week's picks. Remember, you should only consider picking up one of these guys if you're strapped for cash after putting the core of your team together. For example, if you were to draft Kevin Garnett ($19,800,000), Amare Stoudemire ($16,400,000) and Steve Nash ($15,600,000), you'd still be able to field a competitive team by picking up some combination of the guys mentioned below:

Guards
-Juan Carlos Navarro ($6,700,000): The 27-year-old rookie has morphed into the perfect perimeter compliment for teammate Pau Gasol, averaging 17.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 3.0 apg over Memphis' last five games.

-Sebastian Telfair ($6,100,000): Telfair is a risky pick that could reap solid rewards, especially if he can match last week's averages of 9.8 ppg and 6.6 apg.

Forwards
-
Linas Kleiza ($6,300,000): Kleiza should see a boost in PT, thanks to a pair of offensive eruptions last week (16.2 ppg) and the ankle injury suffered by Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony.

-Travis Outlaw ($6,400,000): Outlaw may be the hottest Blazers player not named Brandon Roy. Outlaw is averaging 18.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and 1.6 apg over his last five.

Center
-
Kurt Thomas ($6,000,000): Kurt's fantasy points production (1109) rivals that of Miami's Shaquille O'Neal (1163) and Utah's Mehmet Okur (1024).

6th Man
-
Peja Stojakovic ($5,500,000): He's healthy, he's got Chris Paul setting him up for wide-open jumpers... it's little wonder Peja is making it rain for New Orleans (15.0 ppg, during last five games).

Total cost for this week's Low Budget All-Stars: $37,000,000
Total cost to sign Kevin Garnett and Amare Stoudemire: $36,200,000

And now, the Fantasy Wizard will be taking your questions...
