Following in the tradition of cyclist Lance Armstrong, who showed that an athlete's jewelry could also help others with his Livestrong rubber bands, Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts has teamed with GameWear to kick-start the Brian Bracelet's Program. All proceeds from sales of Brian's bracelets, which have an image of a baseball player with two children and have baseball-like stitching, will benefit the University of Maryland Hospital for Children, and ensure that, when kids are forced to visit the hospital, their stays are as comfortable as possible. Roberts underwent heart surgery at the age of 5 and wanted to do something for kids in similar situations. "When I had my heart surgery all I thought about was going home," he says. "Going home is far off for many hospitalized children so I wanted to help make their hospital stays a little more bearable." Brian's bracelets retail for $10 and are available at briansbracelet.com.
