Where did your team land this week? Keep reading to find out. And don’t forget to tell me what you think of the rankings in the comments below!
Last Week: 1
New York Jets (5-1)
This LaDainian Tomlinson comeback has reached epic proportions. Just as everyone was ready to get him a wheelchair to roll into retirement, he starts out the season by averaging 5.3 yards per carry, tying the best mark in his 10-year, Hall of Fame career. Maybe at the end of the year, we’ll have to wheel him to pick up his league MVP trophy, instead? |
Last Week: 3
Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1)
Big Ben returns, shakes off the rust, tosses three touchdown passes and just like that, the Steelers are Super Bowl contenders. |
Last Week: 7
New England Patriots (4-1)
As the Wiz said in our football podcast this week, “Randy Moss who?” Now that the Pats speedy deep threat is gone, it will be back to the basics for New England’s offense, and the team as a whole. That’s a good thing for the Pats, who never won a Super Bowl with their high-powered offense, but won three with a scrappy team that relied on doing the little things right. |
Last Week: 2
Baltimore Ravens (4-2)
Another tough loss for the Ravens. I love Baltimore this season, but they still seem to blow games with stupid mistakes. This team needs to keep its cool if it wants to take the next step into that elite class of teams in the league. |
Last Week: 6
Indianapolis Colts (4-2)
I hate when my team has a bye week because it means I have to wait a week to watch meaningful football. But I bet Colts fans are ecstatic about Indy’s bye this week so injured players like Joseph Addai, Gary Brackett and the rest of the banged up Colts can get back to 100 percent for their Week 8 rematch with the Texans. |
Last Week: 12
Philadelphia Eagles (4-2)
Kolb, Vick. Vick, Kolb. No matter how the Eagles stack their depth chart, they’re starting to look like one of the best offenses in the NFC. Philly ranks in the top ten in every major offensive category this season even though they don’t seem to know who their starting signal caller is from week to week. |
Last Week: 8
New Orleans Saints (4-2)
What a difference a running game makes. In their last four games, the Saints have gone 2-2. In those two losses, they’ve averaged 64 yards on the ground. In their two wins, 166.5. Once Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush return from injury, this offense is really going to start humming again. |
Last Week: 5
New York Giants (4-2)
The G-Men’s nice little run here has them asserting some dominance. Now they can show they’re for real by ending the Cowboys season on Monday night in front of a national audience. |
Last Week: 15
Tennessee Titans (4-2)
So far, the Titans defense is playing like…well, titans. Tennessee’s D is first in the league in sacks and second in touchdowns allowed. Can they keep it up against the Eagles 8th ranked passing offense in Week 7? |
Last Week: 4
Atlanta Falcons (4-2)
That blowout road loss to the Eagles was a huge step back for the Falcons. Maybe home cooking will be the cure. After opening the season with four of their first six games on the road, the Falcons play four of their next five in Atlanta. |
Last Week: 14
Houston Texans (4-2)
A shaky D almost caught up to the Texans in their narrow home win over the Chiefs. Until H-Town does something about that 32nd ranked pass defense, their Week 1 win over the Colts might stand as the highlight of 2010 for them. |
Last Week: 17
Miami Dolphins (3-2)
The Dolphins return home to host the Steelers and go for their first home win of the season. Maybe they should stay in a hotel the night before the game and ask their fans to boo them so they feel more like they’re on the road, where they’re 3-0? |
Last Week: 9
Chicago Bears (4-2)
On one of these plays where Jay Cutler is running for his life, I partially expect him to keep running through the tunnel and back to safety in the locker room. Cutler has been sacked 15 times in the last six quarters he’s played and until the Bears patch up that awful offensive line, it will be hard to believe this team is as good as its record. |
Last Week: 10
Green Bay Packers (3-3)
I don’t think we’re going to get a good read on this team until their injuries clear out. That being said, they have to face the Vikings, the Jets and then what will surely be a very desperate Cowboys team before they reach their bye week. So a fully healthy roster might not be ready until it’s too late for a playoff push. |
Last Week: 11
Kansas City Chiefs (3-2)
One more loss and that 3-0 start will mean nothing to the Chiefs. But no worries. With three straight winnable games coming up (Jacksonville, Buffalo, at Oakland) and the league’s best rushing attack, I expect the Chiefs to stay comfortably above .500. |
Last Week: 16
Washington Redskins (3-3)
Donovan McNabb continues to hog the headlines in Washington, but it’s the defense in the nation’s capitol that deserves some attention…for all the wrong reasons. The ‘Skins D is giving up the most yards in the league. |
Last Week: 23
Minnesota Vikings (2-3)
I’m still not willing to call this team a Super Bowl contender. Sure, they scraped out a home win over the Cowboys, but only gained 188 yards on offense. With names like Brett Favre, Randy Moss and Adrian Peterson on that roster, that’s just inexcusable. |
Last Week: 13
San Diego Chargers (2-4)
The Chargers play six of their next eight at home and boy do they need it. The Chargers are still winless on the road and now their most effective offensive weapon, Antonio Gates, is nursing a toe injury. |
Last Week: 25
Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
The addition of dual-threat running back Marshawn Lynch was the big story heading into the weekend for Seattle, but Mike Williams stole the show. In the Seahawks upset win over the Bears in Chicago, Williams had more catches in Week 6 than he had in any one season since he was drafted in 2005. |
Last Week: 28
St. Louis Rams (3-3)
It’s no joke how Sam Bradford has settled the starting QB position in St. Louis, but don’t forget about this defense. After sacking Philip Rivers seven times in Week 6, they now have the third most sacks in the NFC. |
Last Week: 18
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)
Speaking of standout rookies, Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams is quietly putting together quite a fine season himself. Williams leads all rookies with 3 touchdown grabs. |
Last Week: 19
Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3)
Oh boy, the quarterback situation is not looking good in Jacksonville. Or should I say “Oh, Bouman.” The Jags re-signed Todd Bouman to help at QB depth after already cutting him earlier this season. |
Last Week: 20
Cincinnati Bengals (2-3)
It’s now or never for the Bengals coming out of their bye week. With four straight games against winning teams, Cincy’s playoff hopes could be determined by Thanksgiving. |
Last Week: 24
Dallas Cowboys (1-4)
The only thing worse than a team consistently beats itself is a team that uses beating itself as an excuse after every loss. If the Cowboys put as much effort into wining as they did into whining, they might not be three games under .500 so early in the season. |
Last Week: 21
Arizona Cardinals (3-2)
Arizona has won 12 of its last 14 games against division foes. I say that trend stops in Week 7. |
Last Week: 22
Denver Broncos (2-4)
The Broncos high-flying pass offense is a blast to watch, but their lack of balance (they have the worst rushing attack in the league) continues to plague them. |
Last Week: 30
San Francisco 49ers (1-5)
The Niners win! Is this the first step towards winning the division after starting off 0-5, like their owner promised? Stay tuned to find out. |
Last Week: 26
Detroit Lions (1-5)
Strong-armed Matthew Stafford should be ready to go after the Lions bye week. That’s wonderful news for a team that currently ranks 27th in the league in passing yards per attempt. |
Last Week: 27
Oakland Raiders (2-4)
It’s no surprise the Silver and Black find themselves this low in the rankings. Teams that don’t have stability at quarterback don’t win many games, and the Raiders are about to start their third different QB in Week 7. |
Last Week: 29
Cleveland Browns (1-5)
It just seems like the deck is stacked against Colt McCoy. The rookie makes the first start of his career against the sack-happy Steelers in Pittsburgh, then has to take on the defending Super Bowl champs without his most explosive playmaker in Josh Cribbs. |
Last Week: 31
Buffalo Bills (0-5)
Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has at least 2 TD passes in his last three games. Anyone out there think he can make it four in a row against the Ravens? |
Last Week: 32
Carolina Panthers (0-5)
Look on the bright side, Panthers fans, at least Carolina can’t move any lower in the rankings. |
