College Football Preview: 5 Freshman To Watch in 2012
Even at some of the biggest programs in the country, some fresh-faced kids straight out of high school are looking to make a mark their first college football season. Here are five freshmen you should keep your eye on this season.
1. WES LUNT
Quarterback, Oklahoma State
Lunt (pictured at right) will step in as the Cowboys' starter following the graduation of Brandon Weeden. In high school Lunt won two Illinois state titles and once threw for 590 yards in a game.
2. STEFONDIGGS
Wide receiver, Maryland
Diggs is a big-play receiver who is difficult to track down in the open field. But he is also a versatile playmaker who can run the ball out of the backfield, return kicks, and even play cornerback.
3. TAYLOR McNAMARA
Tight end, Oklahoma
The U.S. Army All-America has the size and ability of a young Rob Gronkowski. His soft hands, quick feet, and crisp route running should make him a dependable option in the red zone.
4. D.J. HUMPHRIES
Offensive tackle, Florida
It's hard to find many offensive tackles who can move as quickly as Humphries. His ability to play on both sides of the offensive line means a starting job is almost a certainty this season.
5. T.J. YELDON
Running back, Alabama
Yeldon runs the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds and shined in the Crimson Tide's spring game, gaining 179 all-purpose yards and scoring on a 50-yard touchdown reception.
