Megatron Gets Some Transformers-Inspired Footwear

Calvin Johnson is one of the best playmakers in the NFL, and he’s probably got the best nickname in the league, too: Megatron. The Detroit Lions’ star wide receiver is nicknamed after the Transfromers character, and thanks to Nike his connection with the Decepticon is getting a lot more real.

Nike and toy company Hasbro teamed up to create a sneaker and action figure collection based on Megatron — the robot and football player. The signature shoe, called the Nike CJ81Megatron Trainer Max, is inspired by the Transformers character. It’s got a purple, red, and metallic silver color scheme, and includes the Decepticon logo on the heel. Its bold red swoosh and glossy purple finish will definitely make you the center of attention at the gym. Oh, and it parts of it glow in the dark to make you look even more robotic.

There are also two more shoes that are sold as part of a larger collection, called the Megatron Rises 3-Pack. One is another trainer – the Megatron Nike Air Trainer SC II – and a cleat version of the Megatron Trainer Max, so you can transform into Calvin Johnson (or an evil robot) on the field.

But that’s not all! The collection also comes with a five-inch action figure has the same color scheme, and includes Johnson’s signature. It morphs into a jet as a tribute to the wideout’s breathtaking speed on the field. And the whole set comes in a box that unfolds to reveal some cool designs of a football field and robotic characters.
