2014 World Cup Groups Set
The 2014 FIFA World Cup is so, so close. And now we know how the 32 teams in the competition will match up. The World Cup draw was held today, and here's how the groups break down:
So there it is. As soon as the groups were drawn, analysts began calling the US's group, Group G, the Group of Death. Ghana always gives the Americans a hard time, while Germany is a perennial futbol powerhouse. Add to that the fact that the US will travel more than any other team in this competition, and America has a very difficult road ahead of it to win its first World Cup.
The 2014 World Cup opens on June 12 with Brazil taking on Croatia. The United States' first game will be against its old rival Ghana on June 16. And another game worth circling is Spain-Netherlands on June 13 — a rematch of the 2010 World Cup championship game.
