Team USA Goalies and Their World-Class Headgear

Athletes are heading to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics, which begin on Friday. And when Team USA men's hockey goalies Ryan Miller, Jonathan Quick, and Jimmy Howard back their bags, their gear will include specially designed helmets. Over the last few days, the three goalies have been revealing their Olympic masks through social media.

The first was Buffalo Sabres netminder Ryan Miller, who played on the 2010 US team that won silver. Miller went with some patriotic classics — Uncle Sam, a screaming bald eagle — as well as Russian nesting doll versions of himself, his wife, and his pet dog. It looks a lot like the mask he wore in the last Games, only now with a darker color scheme instead of icy blue:





A day later, Kings goalie Jonathan Quick showed off his new headgear through a Vine video. It looks a lot like what he wears for NHL play, except updated with red, white, and blue colors, the word "USA" on the forehead, and the Team USA crest on the chin:

Finally, Red Wings goalkeeper Jimmy Howard showed off his mask earlier this week. He also goes with a bald eagle, but the majority of the cage is taken up by stars in dynamic red, white, and blue streaks. He also has the word "USA" on the chin, and the back of the helmet looks like something a stunt driver would wear:
