Best of Jurgen Klinsmann

Last Friday Jurgen Klinsmann was named the head coach of the U.S. men's national team, making him the 35th coach in the history of the program. Klinsmann had a storied playing career prior to his managerial stint, including starring for the German national team. Here, we take a look at Klinsmann over the years:

Klinsmann scored 11 goals in three World Cups (1990, 1994, 1998) for Germany.

Though the Germans lost to Bulgaria in the quarterfinals of the '94 World Cup, Klinsmann scored five goals in the tournament.

In addition to his play for his country, Klinsmann enjoyed a 17-year career that included stints at VfB Stuttgart, Inter Milan, AS Monaco, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, where he won the Euros in 1996.

Klinsmann played briefly for the Italian team Sampdoria, before leaving the team to return to Tottenham Hotspur, where he first played from 1994 to 1995.

In his final World Cup, Klinsmann scored three goals as Germany fell in the quarterfinals against Croatia.

Klinsmann was the first player to score at least three goals in three separate World Cups.

As coach of the German national team, Klinsmann led Germany to a 20-8-6 record and a third place finish in the 2006 World Cup. He stepped down after the tournament.
