Sports Stars Who Played in the Little League World Series

Seaver played in the Spartan Little League in Fresno, California. He retired from Major League Baseball with 311 wins, three Cy Young Awards, and a World Series Championship with the New York Mets. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.

Long before reaching iconic status with the Yankees and winning four World Series titles under Joe Torre, Jeter played for his dad in the Westwood Little League in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Detroit Tigers designated hitter helped his Belmont (Florida) Little League team reach the 1980 Little League World Series. Now in his 20th season, Sheffield has played in nine All-Star Games and won the World Series with the Florida Marlins, in 1997.

McClendon, played for Anderson Little League of Gary, Indiana. In the 1971 LLWS, he pitched and hit five home runs with 10 RBI in TK games. McClendon was the first former Little Leaguer to manage a major league team when he was hired to skipper the Pittsburgh Pirates, in 2000.

Ripken played for the West Asheville (North Carolina) Little League and is a member of the Little League Hall of Excellence. As the shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles, he broke Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 consecutive games played. He was twice named league MVP and led the Orioles to a World Series championship in 1983.

Ryan started his baseball career in the Alvin (Texas) Little League. He finished it as major league baseball's all-time strikeout leader. The Hall of Famer was the 18th pitcher to win 300 games.

Baker played Little League in Riverside, California before taking his game to the pros. He won the World Series as an outfielder with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1981 and has managed the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the all-time leading scorer in NBA history and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, also had game on the baseball diamond. Abdul-Jabbar, who was named Lew Alcindor at the time, played Little League Baseball in New York City's Inwood Little League.

Flutie played Little League baseball in Natick, Massachusetts before attending Boston College and throwing one of the most famous touchdown passes in history -- a hail mary in the closing seconds to beat Miami. Flutie was also the recipient of the 1984 Heisman Trophy.

Drury is a center for the New York Rangers and has won the Stanley Cup and an Olympic silver medal. But Drury first appeared on the national stage in 1989, as a pitcher for the Trumbull (Connecticut) Little League team. In the championship game, Drury pitched a complete game five-hitter and drove in two runs to lead Trumbull to the title.

Before winning three National League MVP awards and 10 Gold Gloves, Schmidt played in the North Riverdale Little League in Dayton, Ohio.
